Memorial Fund Update

It is my pleasure to announce that we have collectively organized a campaign (to memorialize Anthony's spirit) that is well on its way.  Through December 31, 2008, the Anthony Eugene Gay Memorial Fund has collected $3,375.38 in donated cash.

This money is being held in Anthony's Memorial Fund with Fifth Third Bank, NA .  Donations can continue to be made at any Fifth Third Bank location (Anthony Eugene Gay Memorial Fund c/o Jonathan Israel) or online at www.justiceforanthony.blogspot.com .

An advisory board with the help of Larry and Gayle Gay, Nicklas Gay, Adrienne Gay, Stacey Bohannon Downey, and Jonathan Israel will work together to determine the best way to capture the spirit of Anthony in an appropriate memorial.  To express your thoughts and opinions please continue to donate or drop us a note at www.justiceforanthony.blogspot.com  or contact me directly at jonathan.israel@louisville.edu .

We are asking for a minimum donation of $10 at the door toward the Anthony Eugene Gay Foundation so Anthony can continue to make a difference in this world. If you are unable to make this event, you can still donate to the foundation directly through Nick Gay or Meghan Mallozzi.

Update

The investigation into Anthony's death continues. We have established his whereabouts that evening but Lexington Police are still seeking more information in regard to the crime.

We thank everyone deeply for their donations to Anthony's Memorial Fund. Please continue to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

We have already collected $250 on-line in the first day. Thanks to all that have supported. Update

We wanted to provide a quick update. At this time, we are still waiting for additional information as to what happened to Anthony the night he was struck by a fleeing driver in Lexington. The family is doing as best as possible, but still need your support and prayer.

Unfortunately, the family also needs your financial support. As many of you know, Anthony was a tireless worker in the fashion industry. While he worked many hours and long days, Anthony's employers did not offer insurance and other benefits that would have greatly assisted his parents with the financial struggle of an unsuspecting tragic homicide.

Please use this site to share your feelings or just read the comments. Its truly a beautiful site, where all that loved Anthony can come to while we all struggle through this loss. This site also gives information for those who may be interested in financially assisting the Gay family. Anything you give will be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small.

Finally, we are looking into having a fundraiser for the Anthony Eugene Gay Fund in the very near future. We are also looking for individuals to assist the foundation in forwarding Anthony's legacy (A Celebration of Life) for many years to come. Thirty years just wasn't enough of AMP BOOGIE!

One Month Ago

One month ago yesterday, we lost Anthony.

The pain is still very raw for his family and close friends. As much as we can intellectually grasp that he is gone, our hearts can't seem to catch up to this reality. We ache to hear his voice and see his handsome face. We spend sleepless nights thinking about him. We close our eyes and see his incredibly large and ridiculously contagious smile. We see him in our dreams, waking up willing to give anything in the world to touch him and feel him and smell him again.

We remember sitting next to him in the hospital bed, waiting for the moments when the nurses were not in the room adjusting his IVs or administering medications. Because in those moments, alone with him, we could talk to him intimately, stroke his face and kiss his hands. All this, knowing that somewhere, behind all the tubes and cords and tape and machines, that he could hear us. We told him he wasn't alone, we told him how much we loved him, we prayed over his body. We said our goodbyes.

We try hard to focus on the good times . We try to comfort ourselves with the knowledge that he is in a better place; but struggle to feel closure when there are so many unanswered questions. Not only do we mourn the loss of having Amp in our lives; but we we mourn for all the people that he had not yet met. We mourn their loss as well, because he had so many more lives he was going to touch. So many more people that were going to benefit from knowing him and his gentle and caring soul.

The world, not just us, lost something rare and incredible on July 2, 2008.

Anthony's Life

Anthony Gay, known as Amp to those close to him, had just turned 30 years old on April 9, 2008. He was a very popular and likable guy who was known by many and loved by all. Anthony is best remembered for his gentle soul and incredibly big smile, one that could light up a whole building, let alone a single room. He was a sensitive and caring man who touched every life he came across. Anthony had an incredibly open-mind and always encouraged us all to be ourselves without apology. He was also known for his incredible style, always looking like he had just stepped out of a clothing catalog. 

Anthony came from a very close and loving family. His family and friends are suffering from the unbearable loss of such amazing man and wish to continue to celebrate the wonderful life he lived.
